In an important development the opposition Congress on Sunday demanded imposition of President’s rule in Tripura.
Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman , who had of late been leading the party from forefront, met the media in New Delhi along with party’s Tripura in charge Dr Ajoy Kumar and demanded that the state’s present law and order situation under the BJP government warranted immediate imposition of President’s Rule as not only the opposition workers were being targeted selectively for attacks, but also all aspects of democratic polity were being throttled.
The Congress leaders also demanded that union government should order a probe with a sitting High Court judge into the relentless and violent attacks committed on the opposition leaders and workers in Tripura for the last four and half years.
“It’s a “Super Jungle Raj” in Tripura, claimed Roy Barman in New Delhi.
“The Prime minister should answer in the Lok Sabha why the political opponents in Tripura are being subjected to political violence by the BJP?” said AICC in-charge for Tripura, Nagaland, Sikkim Ajoy Kumar Kumar he also referred to the attack at the house of one Congress worker Keshab Kar on Saturday night in Jirania , West Tripura.

He said, who himself was attacked sevn times in the recent past went ahead with some figures about the violence committed said, during the 52 months’ rule of the BJP, 604 murders, 678 rioting, 644 kidnapping and 1,778 cases of theft cases were reported.
Roy Barman said, “BJP workers and party-backed anti social elements conducted life-threatening attacks on me seven times. State party president Birajit Sinha, former state party president Gopal Roy, former MLA Ashish Saha and scores of Congress leaders were attacked by the BJP activists several times as the ruling party is keen to eliminate all the top state Congress leaders.”
The Congress leaders also alleged other party leaders including former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar were attacked by the BJP workers and the party-backed goons several times.
AICC Secretary Szarita Laitphlang said that an extremely grave situation has been prevailing in Tripura that the people of India should be made aware of it.
In Tripura what we see is a systematic death of democracy she said.
It may be mentioned here that this is for the first time that Congress demanded President’s rule in Tripura.
