SHG Management and Entrepreneurship Development Training organised by SoFED under Indo-German Development Cooperation at Boalkhali Community Hall in Tripura’s Dhalai district empowers women through financial literacy, entrepreneurship skills, and sustainable livelihood development.
A Self Help Group (SHG) Management and Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) was successfully organised by the Society for Entrepreneurship Development (SoFED) at the Boalkhali Community Hall, Raishybari, in Tripura’s Dhalai district. The programme was conducted under the Indo-German Development Cooperation (IGDC) with the objective of strengthening managerial efficiency and entrepreneurial capacity among SHG members, particularly women.
The training programme, titled “SHG Management and EDP for SHG Members”, witnessed active participation from women SHG members and local entrepreneurs from surrounding villages. The initiative aimed to promote sustainable livelihoods, economic self-reliance, and long-term financial stability through skill enhancement and structured group management.
The sessions covered key aspects of SHG functioning, including financial literacy, bookkeeping, record maintenance, group governance, leadership development, and conflict resolution. Participants were also trained in the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, such as identifying viable business ideas, understanding local market demands, managing costs, pricing strategies, and expanding micro-enterprises sustainably.
Resource persons from SoFED explained that effective SHG management is critical for ensuring transparency, accountability, and collective growth. They stressed that disciplined financial practices and strong group coordination enable SHGs to access institutional credit, government schemes, and market opportunities more efficiently.
Special emphasis was placed on utilising locally available resources to create income-generating activities. Through interactive discussions, real-life case studies, and practical examples, participants were guided on how to convert traditional skills into profitable ventures. The participatory approach helped enhance understanding and encouraged open dialogue among the trainees.
Several SHG members shared their experiences during the programme, highlighting challenges they face in managing finances and sustaining small businesses. Many participants expressed confidence that the training would help them improve decision-making, strengthen group cohesion, and increase household income. They noted that enhanced financial planning and entrepreneurship knowledge would play a vital role in improving their families’ socio-economic conditions.
