Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday ruled out imposition of Day Curfew or complete Lockdown due to Corona. The Chief Minister said though the Covid positivity rate is high—around 28 percent in the Agartala Municipal Corporation area and over 13 percent in the state, there was no need for Day curfew or complete lock down as the state government was well prepared as far as health infrastructure was concerned to meet the situation.
“The situation does not warrant stoppage of economic or normal activities of the citizens or the government, semi government or business establishments”, he said while speaking to the media during his visit to the vaccination centre at A.D. Nagar health sub centre in Agartala on Sunday.
He reassured the people, “Tripura is ready to deal, be it Omicron or Covid third wave.” He appealed to all for obeying the Covid guidelines as prescribed by the Health department.
Deb said the government would speed up the vaccination drive for the 15-18 age group in a mission mode.
“The average vaccination rate for the 15-18 age group is 42 percent in the state as well as country”.
“ Tripura already vaccinated 99.53 percent eligible people in the 18+ age group with the first dose and 82.35 percent people with the second dose”, he added.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the largest vaccination drive against Covid being carried out across the country, as the vaccination drive completed one year on Sunday.
“In a country with a population of 130 crore, the fight against Covid pandemic and developing vaccines in such a short period have been possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Deb told the media.
The Chief Minister said, total 157 crore doses were so far administered in the country including 76 crore doses to the women.
He said, “The Prime Minister equally focused on both the rural and urban areas– of the total, 99 crore doses were administered to the people in the rural areas.”
During the visit, the Chief Minister was accompanied by Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly Ratan Chakraborty, chief whip Kalyani Roy, Badharghat MLA Mimi Majumder and health officials.
He announced that the A.D. Nagar health sub-centre would be upgraded to Primary Health Centre with all necessary facilities. A new building would be constructed at an expenditure of Rs. 3 crore and the project would be completed by the next one and a half years.
