In an attempt to meet the prevailing coal crisis that has beset the the brick kilns and tea units of the state, the central government has agreed to increase coal supply to Tripura from Eastern Coalfields Ltd and Mahandi Coalfields Ltd.
Officials said, the Coal India Ltd has responded and taken initiative in this regard in the wake of the state government’s request. The Secretary to the industries department in December last wrote to the Coal India for additional allotment of coal as the brick kilns and tea industries had been facing severe fuel crisis due to Covid pandemic.
Officials have said, the coal will be coming to Tripura following an agreement – Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) with the ECL and MCL. Sources have said, after the agreements are signed an additional two lakhs tonnes of coal will be allocated to Tripura. Of the allocated quantity ECL will send 1.5 lakhs tonnes coal nd MCL 0.5 lakhs tonnes coal to Tripura Small Industries Corporation Ltd (TSICL) .
