Sayantika Nath, a talented actress from Tripura, is winning hearts with her bold roles in films like Accused. From Kathak-trained dancer to Tamil cinema’s rising face, she shares her journey, challenges, and vision for Tripura’s creative future in this inspiring interview.

In a world where dreams often fade under the weight of reality, Sayantika Nath, a rising star from Tripura, has proven that passion, perseverance, and self-belief can rewrite the script of one’s life. Born in Dharmanagar, North Tripura, Sayantika’s love for performing arts began early, with formal training in Kathak and Bharatanatyam shaping her expressive talents. Inspired by cinematic legends like Sridevi and Rani Mukherjee, she envisioned herself on the big screen — portraying strong, impactful characters that linger in the audience’s memory. Today, she is living that very dream.

In an exclusive conversation with Tripura Times, Sayantika opened up about her journey from a small-town girl to a promising face in Indian cinema, her latest Tamil film Accused, and her hopes for the creative future of her home state.

The Spark of Inspiration

“I’ve always been passionate about dancing and dreamt of making a career in films from a very young age,” Sayantika recalls. While she participated in — and won — local modeling shows, acting was always her true calling. Watching powerhouse performances by Sridevi and Rani Mukherjee deepened her desire to be an actress known for impactful roles.

With a suitcase of dreams and an unwavering will, she eventually moved to Mumbai, the city of opportunities, to begin what she calls her “journey of struggle and growth.”

Stepping into the World of Accused

Sayantika’s latest project, Accused, is a Tamil film directed by Prabhu Srinivas. The story challenges perceptions about crime and justice, showing that not everyone accused of wrongdoing is guilty. The cast includes Ajmal Ameer, Yogi Babu, and Jhanvika, among others.

Sayantika landed the role in an unusual way — via an Instagram approach for an audition. She submitted her performance, and the selection came almost instantly. “It all happened so fast — it was surreal!” she says. The film hit theatres on August 1, 2025, earning positive audience feedback and performing well at the box office.

Challenges on Set

While Accused was a breakthrough, it wasn’t without hurdles. Language proved to be the biggest challenge for the Bengali actress. “I didn’t know Tamil, and most of the crew didn’t speak Hindi or English fluently,” she says.

She had to learn and deliver dialogues in Tamil while retaining the emotional intensity of her performance. Despite this, she found the team warm and encouraging, helping her settle into the new environment.

Views on Stardom and Success

At this early stage, Sayantika remains grounded. “It’s just the beginning. There’s so much more to achieve. I don’t want to be a temporary trend — I want to work hard and be remembered for my craft,” she asserts.

The Gap in Tripura’s Creative Landscape

When asked about the difference between Mumbai’s industry and Tripura’s environment for artists, her tone turns reflective. She points out that Tripura lacks a structured entertainment industry and adequate training facilities. “Government jobs are the only respected career path here, and artists often go unnoticed. Many leave the state to chase their dreams because there’s no proper support system,” she explains.

She also notes that limited exposure and financial constraints make it challenging for talented individuals to thrive while staying in Tripura. “Sometimes I wonder how much more I could’ve achieved if I had moved earlier,” she admits.

From Noise of Silence to Accused

Her first major project, Noise of Silence (2021), came with the typical intimidation of stepping into a professional film set for the first time. “I was younger and less experienced then. I’ve improved since, but I still have a long way to go. Growth never stops,” she says.

Advice for Aspiring Artists

Her message to young talents from Tripura is simple yet powerful:
“Follow your passion. Work hard. Stay focused. If you truly believe in your dream, you’ll get there.”

The Road Ahead

Sayantika’s next big release, Gulabjaal, is ready for its OTT premiere. With shooting completed, she eagerly awaits the audience’s response. “Seeing myself on screen still feels magical,” she says.
