Senior politician and MLA Ratan Chakraborty was elected as the new Speaker of Tripura Legislative Assembly on Friday.
The proceedings of the house commenced on Friday, the first day of the two-day monsoon session– 10th session of the 12th Assembly– following the election of the Speaker. He was elected uncontested.The position of Speaker was laying vacant following the resignation of Rebati Mohan Das from the post earlier on September 2 last citing ‘personal reasons’.
Chakraborty, who became the 14th Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, conveyed gratitude to all the members of the House.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb congratulated Chakraborty on being elected as the new Speaker.
“Heartfelt congratulations to Shri Ratan Chakraborty Ji on being elected as the Speaker of the Tripura Assembly. Wishing him a great tenure ahead. I am sure, under his guidance #Tripura assembly will do commendable work for the development of 37 lakh people of #Tripura,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
