Dhiman Chakma and Sumit Paul- two youths from Tripura cleared the Civil Services Examination- 2020 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Dhiman hails from North Tripura district and Sumit is from Khowai district.
As per the UPSC main results Dhiman and Sumit have ranked 482 and 530 respectively.
Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb, Union Minister of State Pratima Bhowmik, MP Rebati Tripura among many others congratulated both the youngsters for their achievements and conveyed best wishes to them.
Total of 761 candidates– 545 men and 216 women– have cleared the coveted civil services examination 2020, with engineering graduates Shubham Kumar and Jagrati Awasthi bagging the first and second ranks respectively.
Dhiman had cleared the UPSC last year but his rank was 721 and was selected as an IFS officer in the Odisha cadre.
“Since I had an opportunity and was sure that appearing once again might help me improve the ranking, I prepared and was successful in improving my rank to 482 this time. I hope this time I might get into IAS and if not at least an IPS officer. I have chosen Tripura as my first preference,” Dhiman said.
For Sumit, who studied first at Sonatala Senior Basic School, Khowai higher secondary school and then Umakanta academy went to study IIT and completed his graduation from IIT Kharagpur.
He got a campus placement with a good pay package but Sumit wanted to become an IAS and he quit the job to prepare for UPSC exams. From 2015 he started preparations he made it through.
The Union Public Service Commission on Friday declared the results of the examination, conducted annually to select IAS, IFS and IPS officers, among other civil servants.
As many as 10,564 candidates qualified for appearance in the written (main) examination which was held in January, 2021. Of them, 2,053 candidates qualified for the personality test (interview), an official statement said.
