Ranjit Acharjee from Dhalai district, Tripura, has been selected as the state’s only NSS volunteer to attend the 2025 Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort, New Delhi. His achievement highlights Tripura’s growing NSS contributions. A felicitation event was held to honour him and local hockey coach Joyshree Sarkar.
In a moment of immense pride for the northeastern state of Tripura, Ranjit Acharjee, a spirited and dedicated volunteer from the National Service Scheme (NSS), has earned a prestigious opportunity to represent the state at the national level. Ranjit, a student of Gandatwisa Higher Secondary School in Dhalai district, has been selected to attend the 2025 Independence Day celebrations as a special guest at the historic Red Fort in New Delhi.
This rare honour makes Ranjit the sole representative from Tripura among the 50 NSS volunteers selected from across the country. Each selected volunteer is permitted to bring along one guardian, and Ranjit will be accompanied by his proud mother on this momentous journey to the nation’s capital.
Recognition for Tripura’s Growing NSS Presence
Ranjit’s selection is not just a personal milestone but also a reflection of the growing national recognition of Tripura’s NSS efforts. The National Service Scheme has played an instrumental role in fostering social awareness and civic responsibility among youth across India, and Tripura has steadily emerged as a state with active and impactful NSS participation.
The NSS unit of Gandatwisa Higher Secondary School, where Ranjit volunteers, has been at the forefront of social service initiatives for several years. Under the capable leadership of Programme Officer Bhaskar Ghosh, the unit has undertaken numerous community welfare and awareness campaigns, ranging from health drives to environmental protection efforts.
Bhaskar Ghosh’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. Last year, he was felicitated by the Chief Minister of Tripura as the Best State-Level NSS Programme Officer, underscoring the quality of leadership and mentorship that has helped students like Ranjit thrive and gain national recognition.
Celebrations in Dhalai District
Ranjit’s achievement has sparked widespread celebration in his school and the broader community of Gandatwisa. A felicitation ceremony was held on Tuesday at Gandatwisa Higher Secondary School to honour his selection. The event was graced by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Chandrajoy Reang, Vice Principal Khajendra Tripura, and other respected faculty members and local dignitaries.
Speaking at the event, SDM Reang commended Ranjit’s dedication and praised the school’s consistent efforts in nurturing students through platforms like the NSS. He noted that this selection would not only motivate Ranjit but would also inspire countless other students across the state to engage in meaningful community service.
Vice Principal Khajendra Tripura echoed similar sentiments, saying that Ranjit’s selection is “a matter of immense pride for the entire subdivision and a recognition of the spirit of volunteerism that our students embody.”
Local Heroes Honoured
The felicitation event also honoured another pillar of the local community — hockey coach Joyshree Sarkar. Sarkar has been providing voluntary coaching to local students for several years, enabling them to participate in various state and national-level tournaments.
Her commitment to sports development and youth empowerment was lauded by all present at the event. She remains a source of inspiration for both students and educators in the region, representing how selfless service and consistent effort can shape futures and uplift communities.
Past Participation Reflects Consistent Contribution
This is not the first time Tripura has made its mark at national celebrations. In 2024, four NSS volunteers from Tripura were selected for Independence Day celebrations, while two more participated in the Republic Day events earlier this year. Ranjit’s inclusion in the 2025 roster continues this tradition of excellence and showcases the consistent contributions of Tripura’s youth at the national stage.
