PM Modi departed for the UAE to strengthen India-UAE strategic ties through high-level talks with President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed on trade, energy security, investment, and welfare of the Indian diaspora during his multi-nation diplomatic visit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday departed for Abu Dhabi on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, marking the beginning of a multi-nation diplomatic tour aimed at enhancing India’s global partnerships and economic cooperation. The visit to the Gulf nation is expected to reinforce the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the UAE, which has grown significantly in recent years across trade, energy, investment, and regional cooperation.

During the visit, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to hold high-level talks with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The discussions are expected to focus on major sectors including trade expansion, strategic investments, energy security, infrastructure collaboration, and strengthening people-to-people ties between the two nations.

Officials from India’s Ministry of External Affairs stated that the visit would further promote the rapidly expanding economic engagement between the two countries. India and the UAE have emerged as strong economic partners, with bilateral trade witnessing significant growth over the years. The UAE currently stands as India’s third-largest trading partner and one of the leading foreign investors in the country.

Energy cooperation is likely to remain one of the key highlights of the visit. According to official sources, two important Memorandums of Understanding related to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and strategic petroleum reserves are expected to be signed during the Prime Minister’s stay in Abu Dhabi. These agreements are aimed at strengthening India’s long-term energy security and enhancing cooperation in the hydrocarbon sector.

The visit also carries importance due to the large Indian diaspora living in the UAE. More than 4.5 million Indians reside and work in the Gulf nation, making it one of the largest overseas Indian communities in the world. Their welfare, employment opportunities, and community-related concerns are expected to be part of the discussions between the two sides.

The UAE visit forms the first leg of Prime Minister Modi’s broader international tour covering several European countries. Briefing the media ahead of the visit, senior officials from the Ministry of External Affairs said the Prime Minister would next travel to the Netherlands. This will mark his second official visit to the European nation since 2017.

During his visit to the Netherlands, Prime Minister Modi is expected to meet King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. He will also hold talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten to discuss bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and technology partnerships.

Following the Netherlands visit, the Prime Minister will travel to Sweden, where he is scheduled to hold bilateral discussions with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Gothenburg. The talks are expected to review the full spectrum of India-Sweden relations and identify new opportunities for collaboration in trade, innovation, green technology, and sustainable development.

Both leaders are also expected to jointly address the European Round Table for Industry alongside Ursula von der Leyen, highlighting economic opportunities and industrial partnerships between India and European nations.

In the fourth phase of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Norway to participate in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit and hold bilateral engagements with Nordic leaders. The summit is expected to focus on climate cooperation, clean energy, maritime partnerships, and innovation-led growth.

The final leg of the Prime Minister’s diplomatic tour will take him to Italy, where he will meet President Sergio Mattarella and hold talks with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Discussions are likely to center on economic cooperation, defense collaboration, and strengthening ties between India and Italy within the broader European framework.
