North Tripura enforces the No Helmet, No Petrol rule to reduce road accidents and save lives. Two-wheeler riders without helmets will be denied fuel as authorities strengthen road safety enforcement across the district.

The North Tripura District Administration has enforced a stringent road safety measure by implementing the “No Helmet, No Petrol” policy across the district with effect from Thursday. The initiative aims to curb rising road accidents and reduce fatalities involving two-wheeler riders.

The decision was taken following clear directives from the District Road Safety Committee, which expressed serious concern over the increasing number of severe and fatal accidents linked to the non-use of helmets. Under the new rule, two-wheeler riders without helmets will not be provided fuel at any petrol pump within North Tripura.

To ensure smooth implementation and public awareness, prominent banners and posters have been installed at all petrol pumps and high-footfall areas across the district. These awareness materials clearly communicate the message that wearing a helmet is mandatory for purchasing fuel, reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance approach toward traffic violations.

District Magistrate Chandni Chandran and Superintendent of Police Abhinash Rai formally launched the initiative and appealed to citizens to treat road safety as a shared responsibility. Addressing the public, the officials emphasized that helmets are not merely legal requirements but critical life-saving equipment that significantly reduce the risk of head injuries and death during accidents.

“Road safety cannot be ensured by enforcement alone. It requires conscious participation from every citizen,” the officials stated. They added that the administration’s primary objective is not punishment but the protection of human lives.

According to district sources, a substantial percentage of accident-related deaths involve riders who were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash. The new policy is expected to bring about a behavioral shift among commuters and promote a culture of responsible driving.

Petrol pump owners and operators across North Tripura have been strictly instructed to comply with the directive. Any violation of the rule by fuel outlets may invite disciplinary action under applicable laws. Traffic police and district officials will conduct regular monitoring to ensure full enforcement.
