The first session of the newly elected Lok Sabha is set to commence on June 24 and will run until July 3, as announced by Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiran Rijiju, on Wednesday. The session will kick off with the oath or affirmation of the newly elected members of the Lok Sabha, followed by the election of the Speaker.
One of the pivotal events during this session will be the address by President Droupadi Murmu to a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on June 27. The President’s speech is anticipated to outline the new government’s roadmap for the next five years.
In a social media post on the platform ‘X’ (formerly known as Twitter), Rijiju shared these details, highlighting the significance of the upcoming parliamentary activities. The Rajya Sabha is also scheduled to meet on June 27, with its session concluding on July 3.
Following the President’s address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to introduce his Council of Ministers to Parliament. The debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address is anticipated to witness robust participation from the opposition, as they are likely to challenge the NDA government on various issues.
The Prime Minister will subsequently respond to the debate on the Motion of Thanks in both Houses of Parliament, marking a crucial interaction between the government and the opposition in this new parliamentary term.
