Hartalika Teej observed in Nepal today, the Pashupatinath Temple premises appear red from a distance due to women devotees decked in red.

On the occasion of Hartalika Teej today, thousands of Hindu women who are fasting without food and water are visiting the Pashupatinath temple. Pashupatinath Temple gates were open for women devotees from 3 am in the morning. Dressed in red saris and adorned with traditional jewellery and flowers, a long queue of women was seen outside the Pashupatinath temple.

Women devotees visited Balaju Baisdhara Park, where Balaju and Shiva temples are present. On the occasion of Teej, women devotees were charged no tickets to enter the park. All beautifully decked up women were seen offering puja, giving alms, dancing and singing in groups.

In Nepal, the festival is celebrated with women visiting their parental homes, dancing, singing, and fasting while offering prayers to Lord Shiva and Parvati. It is assumed that by observing Teej, women are blessed with long, happy marital life and unmarried women observing Teej are blessed with husbands like lord Shiva.

To manage crowds in popular temples, security was tightened. Free Health checkups for women were organised in various places across Kathmandu Valley. President of Nepal Ram Chandra Paudel has issued a message on the occasion of the Teej festival, highlighting the Teej as a symbol of love, affection, creativity, and the preservation of Nepal’s cultural heritage.
