NAMTECH has partnered with NIT Agartala and six other Northeast India institutes to promote future-ready skills in AI, robotics, smart manufacturing, and more. This initiative supports Make in India, Digital India, and Skill India through joint research, student programs, faculty development, and tech-driven social impact projects.

In a landmark move to strengthen technological education and skill development in India’s Northeast, Gandhinagar-based NAMTECH (New Age Makers Institute of Technology) has announced a strategic partnership with seven premier Institutes of National Importance (INIs), including NIT-Agartala. This collaboration, according to a press release by NAMTECH — an educational initiative backed by ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) — aims to build future-ready capabilities across advanced domains such as smart manufacturing, robotics, artificial intelligence, digital technologies, sustainability, mobility, and even space technologies.

The participating institutes include:

  • National Institute of Technology (NIT) Sikkim

  • NIT Manipur

  • NIT Nagaland

  • NIT Silchar

  • NIT Agartala

  • NIT Mizoram

  • Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Manipur

This broad collaboration is crafted not only to promote regional development in the Northeast but also to actively support national flagship initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, and Skill India.

Key Areas of Collaboration

The alliance will involve a multi-pronged approach to knowledge sharing, curriculum innovation, and talent development. Highlights of the partnership include:

  • Joint Research & Innovation: NAMTECH and the INIs will undertake joint R&D projects addressing real-world challenges, both national and global.

  • Co-development of Curriculum & Micro-Credentials: Cutting-edge industry-aligned curriculum will be co-created to ensure that students are equipped with skills relevant to Industry 4.0 and beyond.

  • Faculty Development & Advanced Skilling: Intensive training programs will be launched for faculty and students to enhance teaching methodologies and hands-on technical capabilities.

  • Startup Incubation & Events: The partnership will nurture entrepreneurial ecosystems through startup incubation, hosting of national and international seminars, hackathons, and symposiums.

  • Joint Degree & Student Exchange Programs: Provisions for joint degree and student immersion programs will provide experiential learning and global exposure to students of the Northeast.

  • Technology Commercialisation & Policy Advocacy: The collaboration aims to facilitate the transition of research into market-ready technologies and contribute to national policy through white papers.

Social Outreach and Capacity Building

The partnership will also feature a hub-and-spoke model that connects these institutes with nearby Engineering Diploma Colleges and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs). These spokes will receive mentorship and infrastructural support from the INIs, fostering a wider ecosystem of skill development and innovation.

Furthermore, students from these institutions will be eligible to apply for the NAMTECH MET Fellowship, a prestigious opportunity for final-year students and recent alumni (under the age of 30) to pursue a one-year International Professional Master’s Program (iPMP) at NAMTECH. The program offers not just world-class instruction but also practical engagement with global industries.

Voices from Leadership

Arunkumar Pillai, Director General and CEO of NAMTECH, emphasized the deeper intent behind this initiative:

“This strategic partnership marks a significant step in fostering both technological and cultural integration for students from the Northeast. By leveraging local talent and global insights, we aim to transform the region into a nucleus of innovation and skilled excellence.”

A Transformative Vision for Northeast India

This partnership symbolizes a deliberate and visionary effort to bridge the development gap between India’s heartland and its Northeast frontier. By nurturing a symbiotic relationship between education, industry, and national development schemes, NAMTECH’s collaboration with the seven INIs is poised to catalyze a new era of inclusive and sustainable growth in the region.
