
The National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD) Tripura Regional Office has launched a major Tribal Development Fund (TDF) project with the goal of enhancing the economic conditions of the tribal communities in the Gomati District’s Kakraban area. The project was launched under the guidance of NABARD General Manager Anil S. Kotmire
The project, inaugurated on Tuesday targets five village councils: Uttar Shilghati, South Rani, Purba Tulamura, Dhuptali, and Samukcharra under the Kakraban R.D. Block. The project’s primary focus is on the distribution of agricultural resources and support to tribal families, with the goal of enhancing their agricultural productivity and overall livelihood.
During the inauguration, 16 mango saplings, 113 arecanut saplings, and various intercropping plants such as turmeric and chilli were distributed. Each family received a single motor for irrigation purposes and 14 coconut saplings. The project also plans to distribute piggery and goatery units, along with border plants like neem, moringa, and amla, in the following year.
The inauguration ceremony saw the participation of key officials, including Khokan Dey, DDM of NABARD Gomati and South Tripura, Jitendra Majumder, MLA of 33-Kakraban and Salgarah, Abhishek Debroy, MLA of Matabari Constituency, and social worker Biswajit Sarkar. The event was attended by over 200 beneficiaries from the five village councils.
In his address, Kotmire emphasized the importance of infrastructure development in tribal areas and encouraged farmers to expand their agricultural ventures using the resources provided by the project. He also urged government representatives to invest in rural development projects, such as the construction of storage facilities.
Khokan Dey briefed the beneficiaries on the project’s scope and NABARD’s role in providing continued support. The attending MLAs assured their full cooperation in ensuring the project’s success and urged beneficiaries to actively participate and not take the benefits for granted. Social worker Biswajit Sarkar committed to assisting at the ground level to ensure the project’s successful implementation.
The event concluded with the distribution of sample saplings and fencing nets to selected farmers, symbolizing the beginning of a new phase of development for the tribal communities in the region
