Mizoram Governor General Vijay Kumar Singh highlights the state’s tradition of peace and civil-military harmony at a state-level ex-servicemen rally, reaffirming commitment to veterans’ welfare, dignity, and selfless service rooted in Mizo values.
Mizoram Governor General (Dr) Vijay Kumar Singh (Retd.) on Saturday underscored the state’s long-standing tradition of peace, harmony, and deep-rooted civil-military cooperation, describing it as a model worthy of national recognition. Addressing a State-level ex-servicemen rally at Lammual Ground, the Governor praised Mizoram’s unique social fabric that fosters mutual respect and trust between civilians and uniformed personnel.
The rally, organised to honour the contributions and sacrifices of ex-servicemen, was attended by the Governor along with First Lady Bharti Singh. Mizoram Home Minister K. Sapdanga and senior officials were also present at the event, which witnessed enthusiastic participation from veterans, their families, and members of the public.
In his address, Governor Singh highlighted that Mizoram’s ex-servicemen are among the most disciplined and well-groomed veterans in the country. He remarked that their dignified appearance and conduct reflect the values of discipline, integrity, and self-respect instilled during their years of service. According to the Governor, such conduct serves as a benchmark for how ex-servicemen should carry themselves in civilian life while continuing to inspire society.
Describing the rally as a powerful symbol of unity, the Governor said the event reflected the enduring bond between the armed forces and the people of Mizoram. He noted that this relationship is built on mutual respect, cooperation, and goodwill, contributing significantly to the state’s peaceful environment and social stability.
Emphasising the sacrifices made by ex-servicemen, General Singh recalled how soldiers often spend long years away from their families, serving in some of the most difficult and remote regions of the country. He said their selfless service ensures the safety, sovereignty, and integrity of the nation, often at great personal cost. The courage, discipline, and devotion to duty displayed by veterans, he added, remain exemplary and deserving of the highest respect.
The Governor also expressed appreciation for the thoughtful arrangements made during the rally, particularly the organisation of a dedicated medical camp for ex-servicemen and their families. He welcomed the establishment of a Grievance Redressal Cell aimed at addressing long-pending concerns related to pensions, healthcare access, welfare schemes, and resettlement issues. Expressing optimism, he said such initiatives would bring tangible benefits to veterans and announced plans to organise larger and more comprehensive medical camps in the future.
Reaffirming the state government’s commitment to the welfare of veterans, Governor Singh stressed that ex-servicemen and their families must always be treated with dignity, care, and respect. He linked this responsibility to the core Mizo value of Tlawmngaihna, which embodies selfless service, compassion, and concern for others. According to him, honouring veterans is not merely a duty of the government but a moral obligation of society as a whole.
Home Minister K. Sapdanga, addressing the gathering, described the rally as a magnificent tribute to ex-servicemen who have dedicated their lives to the nation. He said their sacrifices instil pride and confidence in the country and serve as a reminder of the price paid for peace and security. Paying homage to those who served in conflict zones and inhospitable terrains, he emphasised that duty always came before personal comfort for these soldiers.

Acknowledging the respect held by the people of Mizoram for ex-servicemen, the Home Minister urged veterans to continue setting high standards of conduct in civilian life. He also called upon the youth to draw inspiration from their dedication and discipline, encouraging them to become responsible citizens committed to national service and social development.
Following the formal programme, the Governor visited various stalls set up at the rally venue and interacted warmly with ex-servicemen. During the event, honours and assistance were extended to nine ex-servicemen, the family of a gallantry award recipient, and five Veer Naris, marking a fitting conclusion to a day dedicated to respect, gratitude, and national pride.
