The historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple reopened 17 donation boxes under tight security in Gomati. A special administrative team supervised the counting process, with officials expecting significant collections and foreign currency, reflecting the temple’s growing popularity among devotees and international pilgrims.

The historic Mata Tripura Sundari Temple, popularly known as Matabari, reopened its traditional donation boxes and chests on Tuesday morning after a gap of nearly one month and twenty days. The exercise, carried out under tight security and strict administrative supervision, marked an important event for both temple authorities and thousands of devotees who regularly offer donations at one of Tripura’s most revered pilgrimage sites.

A total of 17 donation boxes and chests were unlocked inside the temple premises, with the counting process commencing early in the morning. The counting continued throughout the day and was expected to conclude between 6 pm and 7 pm, according to officials overseeing the exercise.

To ensure complete transparency and accuracy, the Gomati District Magistrate’s office constituted a 17-member special team to supervise the counting process. Administrative officials remained present throughout the exercise, while security personnel maintained strict vigil around the temple complex to ensure smooth and orderly proceedings.

Deputy Collector Chandrashekhar Chattopadhyay, who supervised the operation, said that the counting was being conducted strictly in accordance with prescribed government guidelines. Every stage of the process was carefully monitored to maintain transparency and accountability in handling the temple’s donations.

Officials recalled that during the previous opening of the donation boxes on 18 May, the temple had received collections worth Rs 20.52 lakh, besides a considerable amount of foreign currency contributed by devotees and visitors. This year’s collection is also expected to be substantial, although members involved in the counting indicated that the total amount may be slightly lower than the previous round.

The continued presence of foreign currency in the donation boxes reflects the growing popularity of the Mata Tripura Sundari Temple among international tourists and pilgrims. The temple, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, has increasingly attracted visitors from different parts of India as well as abroad, strengthening its status as a prominent spiritual and cultural destination.

Apart from its religious significance, the reopening of the donation boxes has also drawn attention due to the temple’s contribution to religious tourism in Tripura. The regular counting of donations provides valuable resources for temple management, maintenance, and the development of facilities for devotees.

Temple authorities and district officials expressed satisfaction over the peaceful conduct of the counting process. With stringent security arrangements and administrative oversight in place, the exercise proceeded without any disruption.
