Manipur CM Yumnam Khemchand Singh urged people to forget past conflicts and unite for development while inaugurating sports and education infrastructure projects, extending aid to displaced families, and announcing new welfare initiatives for youth, athletes, and local communities across Mayang-Imphal.

A strong appeal for unity and collective development was made by Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday as he urged the people of Manipur to move beyond past divisions and work together for a peaceful and progressive future. Addressing a gathering during the inauguration of a newly constructed Multipurpose Indoor Hall under the Khelo India scheme at Charoipung Playground in Mayang-Imphal, the Chief Minister said that the prolonged ethnic unrest in the state has caused severe hardship to every community.

Speaking at the programme, Singh stressed that development and peace can only be achieved through unity and cooperation among all sections of society. He appealed to the people to leave behind bitterness from the past and focus on rebuilding Manipur together. According to the Chief Minister, the state has suffered greatly due to the unprecedented ethnic crisis, making it essential for citizens to collectively participate in restoring stability and progress.

As part of the government’s continued support for families affected by the violence, Singh provided financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to a member of an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) family suffering from serious health complications. The family has been residing at a relief camp established at Pravabati College in Mayang-Imphal, located around 26 kilometres from Imphal city.

During his visit to the relief camp, the Chief Minister interacted with representatives of displaced families as well as members of the college students’ union at the fitness centre of Pravabati College. He assured them that the government remains committed to addressing the concerns of those affected by the violence and ensuring rehabilitation support.

Later, Singh inaugurated the newly constructed indoor sports facility at Charoipung Playground and encouraged young athletes from the Mayang-Imphal Assembly constituency to continue striving for excellence in sports. Highlighting Manipur’s reputation in Indian sports, the Chief Minister stated that Indian sports are incomplete without the contribution of Manipuri players. He further added that the sports identity of Manipur itself remains incomplete without athletes from the Mayang-Imphal constituency.

The Chief Minister also assured residents that a football turf would soon be developed in the nearby area following demands raised by local MLA Kongkham Robindro Singh. In addition, he announced that funds for constructing separate boys’ and girls’ hostels for players would be allocated from the state budget. Work on an approach road to improve connectivity in the area would also begin shortly.

Encouraging economic empowerment, Singh urged local residents to form Self Help Groups (SHGs), stating that the government has already sanctioned nearly Rs 350 crore for related initiatives. He noted that such financial support could especially benefit families during the upcoming Ningol Chakouba festival.

During the programme, commendation certificates and plaques were distributed to athletes and coaches who have brought recognition to the state through their achievements in sports. The Chief Minister also announced that the indoor stadium would remain open for public use.

Continuing his development-focused visit, Singh inaugurated a 100-bedded girls’ hostel, eight classrooms, a library, and science and craft blocks at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya located at Heigum Yangbi in Imphal West district. He also inspected the ongoing construction of a 100-bedded hospital under Wangoi Sub-Division and assured local residents that the facility would soon become operational.

The Chief Minister later interacted with members of the All Mayang-Imphal Muslim Youth Development Organisation and assured them that a proposal for constructing a volleyball court at the AMIMYDO Bengoon ground would be examined positively.

Addressing the gathering during the event, Konthoujam Govindas Singh said that Mayang-Imphal constituency has witnessed remarkable improvement in education, sports, and communication infrastructure over the last few years. He credited the progress to the election of a young and dynamic leader representing the constituency.
