The opposition leader Manik Sarkar on Tuesday castigated the state government for turning the recently concluded ULB elections in to a ‘mockery of democracy’. .
He said, “Since assuming the power in 2018, the BJP government has turned elections starting from Lok Sabha till the recently held municipal poll into farce. Mockery was held in the name of vote, where the people of this state were prevented from casting their vote.”
“Had votes been truly cast to such percentage as being shown in favour of the BJP, people would not have walked on the streets on the poll day. People were forced to return from polling stations without casting vote while many others were physically assaulted. Left Front polling agents were either denied entry or thrown out of polling centers by force,” alleged the former Chief Minister.
Asked about the gradual decrease of the vote percentage of the CPI-M, Sarkar told reporters, “The vote percentage does not justify anything as long as elections are made farce. If people cannot cast their vote how then the percentage could be calculated?”.
He also took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his laudatory statement at the ‘success of the civic body polls and people’s mandate’ saying such statement made no sense when polling was not free and fair.
Sarkar however said that the CPI-M and the Left front shall continue fight back all odd in the state standing by the side of general people who are frustrated from the mis-rule of BJP government.
