Madonna urges fans to put their phones down and reconnect with live music experiences as she promotes Confessions II at the Tribeca Film Festival. The Queen of Pop says meaningful music and human connection are at the heart of her new visual album, set for release on July 3.

Global pop icon Madonna has called on music lovers to put away their smartphones and focus on genuine human connection during live performances, as she celebrated the upcoming release of her new project, Confessions II, at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.

The singer-songwriter recently took over New York for a special celebration marking Confessions II, a sequel to her acclaimed album Confessions on a Dance Floor, which first captivated audiences nearly two decades ago. During the premiere of the visualizer accompanying the new album, Madonna shared her thoughts on the role of music in bringing people together and creating meaningful experiences.

The seven-time Grammy Award winner emphasized that her artistic vision goes beyond creating entertainment. According to Madonna, music should inspire thought, emotion, and connection among listeners.

“I don’t want to make mindless music. I want to make music that’s about something,” she said during the event. The singer explained that dance music has the power to unite people through movement and shared energy, creating a sense of connection that extends beyond the dance floor.

Madonna described the visual project as a reflection of that idea. She explained that the short film explores themes of curiosity, risk-taking, and human interaction. The story follows her emergence from solitude into a vibrant and surreal environment filled with people, symbolizing the importance of engaging with the world and connecting with others.

One of the strongest messages she delivered during the discussion was her concern about the growing presence of smartphones at concerts and public events. Madonna encouraged fans to spend less time looking at screens and more time experiencing the moment.

The pop superstar recalled her appearance at the Coachella music festival earlier this year, noting that many audience members were holding their phones up throughout the performance. She said it became difficult to see the faces of the crowd because so many people were focused on recording rather than participating in the live experience.

This concern reportedly influenced the decision to require audience members to lock away their devices during a recent screening event. Madonna believes reducing distractions can help people become more engaged with both the performance and those around them.

Directed by David Toro and Solomon Chase, collectively known as TORSO, Confessions II is a 13-minute visual short film featuring the first six tracks from Madonna’s upcoming 15th studio album. The project is scheduled to debut on YouTube on July 3 and is expected to offer fans a fresh artistic experience that blends music, storytelling, and visual creativity.

The short film also features appearances by several notable personalities, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Kate Moss, Julia Garner, Richard E. Grant, and Madonna’s daughter Lourdes Leon, among others.
