Prashanta Sengupta, popularly known as Partha Sengupta, a senior journalist and also a poet passed away at GB Hospital at wee hours of Saturday. He was 68 and is survived by his wife, a son and many relatives.

Known and loved by all for his amiable and soft spoken demeanour Partha Sengupta began his journalistic career at Tripura Darpan. He then worked in Syandan Patrika and later Daily Desher Katha. Dedicated to his work and busy in his literary activities when time allowed he was universally popular and a man without any controversy.

Recently Sengupta suffered some neurological problem and had been facing difficulties in walking and standing. Two weeks ago he fell on the floor and had suffered internal injuries in head. He was hospitalized and due to his weak physical condition was shifted to ICU. On Friday he suffered brain stroke and had to be taken to ventilation. The end came at around 3 am.

As the passing away of Sengupta became known a pall of gloom descended among the journalistic fraternity and the literary circles of the state. The media fraternity paid their last respects with floral wreaths when the body of the late senior journalist was brought to the Agartala Press Club on Saturday morning.

In a statement, Agartala Press Club expressed deep condolences and extended sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Later, his mortal remains were consigned to flames at Battala Crematorium today.
