To mark the 135th death anniversary of Fakir Lalon Shah, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC), High Commission of India, Dhaka, hosted a special musical evening titled “Lalon Sandhya” yesterday at the Liberation War Museum Auditorium. The programme also paid a heartfelt tribute to the Queen of Lalon Geeti, Farida Parveen, celebrating her immense contribution to preserving and popularising Lalon’s musical heritage. The event drew a distinguished gathering of artists, scholars, music enthusiasts, youth, and admirers of Lalon’s philosophy from across Dhaka.
In his inaugural address, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma highlighted the deep spiritual and cultural bonds between India and Bangladesh, reflected through the life and works of Fakir Lalon Shah. He said Lalon’s message of unity, compassion, and humanism transcends national borders and continues to inspire both nations in their shared cultural journey. Paying tribute to Farida Parveen, the High Commissioner said her music bridged generations and nations, serving as a cultural bridge between India and Bangladesh.
The evening featured soulful performances by renowned Lalon singers Chandana Majumdar and Kiran Chandra Roy, along with an authentic Baul presentation by Tuntun Baul and his team from Kushtia. Esteemed Lalon scholar Abdel Mannan, founder of Lalon Biswa Sangha, delivered an insightful talk on Lalon’s teachings and their continued relevance in today’s world. Dedicated to Fakir Lalon Shah-the mystic poet, philosopher, and the programme celebrated his enduring message of harmony, inclusivity, and equality that continues to resonate across India and Bangladesh.
