Western Europe experienced its hottest June ever this year, with average temperatures reaching 20.49°C, according to the EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service. Two major heatwaves, peaking on June 17-22 and again at month’s end, drove extreme conditions across countries including Spain, France, and the UK. June 30 recorded a staggering 24.9°C daily average. Temperatures exceeded the 1991-2020 average by 2.81°C. Prolonged heat domes intensified droughts, pollution, and wildfires, while tropical nights surged, impacting public health. The western Mediterranean also saw record marine heat. The Copernicus Climate Change Service warned such events will worsen with climate change. June 2025 was the globe’s third-warmest June ever.
