

With the cooperation and consensus, GST has given a strong base to India’s economy. Regardless of political bias, everyone has come forward in terms of starting a strong system such as GST in the interest of the country on July 1, 2017, stated Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma after inaugurating a programme on the occasion of 5 years completion of GST and felicitation of best tax payer organizations of the state organized by the Finance department at the conference hall of Hapania International Fair Ground yesterday. Total 26 organizations including ONGC, GAIL, Shyam Sundar Jewellers, Mahul Boutique etc. were felicitated in the programme.
Deputy Chief Minister said, paying tax is every citizen’s duty. GST was started 5 years ago across the country for simplification of tax payment system to ease carrying out of this duty. As a result, One Nation, One Market and One Tax System was started. He also said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi believes that any government work is not successful without the participation of the public. GST has been successful in 5 years with the participation of the public. Earlier, paying tax used to be a tedious process. As a result, collection of taxes was also used to be less, for which even the nation had to face economical loss. But after the GST was started, the number of tax payers has increased. He said, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises are the backbone of the Indian economy. After the GST started, these organizations were relieved from the burden of taxes. Tax has reduced on about 400 products and 80 different kinds of services after the GST came into effect. The cost of inter-state transportation of goods has also reduced. This system is being simplified through GST council with everyone’s consent keeping the time, economy and situation in mind. This effort will continue in coming days as well, he added.
Other dignitaries who spoke on the occasion were Secretary of Finance department, Brijesh Pandey and Chief Commissioner of State Tax, Rakhi Biswas. It is to be noted that, 14 lakh 27 thousand 313 crore rupees GST has been collected in the financial year 2021-22 and 4 lakh 53 thousand 41 crore rupees GST has been collected in the financial year 2022-23 till June. In the financial year 2017-18, except the compensation amount, GST of 479.71 crore rupees was collected in the state. That has increased to 1,282.69 crore rupees in the financial year 2021-22. Others present in the programme were, NEEPCO CGM Debjani Dey, GAIL GM Biswajit Debbarma, IOCL DGM Jampaniyam Panmei, NIC Senior Technical Director Abhijit Bhattacharjee.
