ABVP National Secretary Kamlesh Singh says Gen Z is increasingly embracing “Rashtravad”, with over one lakh Tripura students joining ABVP in 2025. He highlights education reforms, national security, illegal immigration policies and youth participation during a press conference in Dhaleswar.
Gen Z across India is increasingly embracing the ideology of “Rashtravad” (nationalism), reflecting a significant shift in student politics and youth sentiment, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) National Secretary Kamlesh Singh said on Monday. Addressing a press conference at the ABVP state office in Dhaleswar, Singh highlighted the rapid rise in youth participation in nationalist-driven student activism across the country.
According to Singh, the younger generation—particularly Gen Z—has shown remarkable enthusiasm toward ABVP’s organisational ideology, which centres on “Rashtravad”, nation-first values, academic reforms and student empowerment. He said this growing acceptance is visible in the organisation’s consistent victories in student body elections across multiple universities, including Assam University and Panjab University.
“This trend clearly demonstrates that students from almost every state are resonating with our ideas and contributing actively to ABVP’s expansion,” Singh said. He added that current campus environments show an increased willingness among young students to engage with issues of national security, social responsibility and educational transformation.
One Lakh Students Joined ABVP in Tripura in 2025
Emphasising Tripura’s growing involvement, Singh revealed that nearly one lakh students joined ABVP in the state in 2025 alone. He described this as a major indicator of students’ trust in ABVP’s activities and commitment toward youth development.
“Such a massive participation from the student community reflects the faith they are placing in our organisational work, especially our initiatives to address core academic and national concerns,” Singh said.
Key Highlights from the 71st ABVP National Convention
Singh also briefed the media about the resolutions and decisions adopted at the 71st ABVP National Convention, held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand from November 28 to 30. The convention primarily focused on a set of national priorities, including:
Education reforms aimed at strengthening academic standards
Student welfare initiatives to ensure equitable access to quality education
National security measures, with emphasis on border management
Social unity and harmony among diverse communities
Environmental protection, particularly through youth-led campaigns
He said the ABVP continues to push for long-term changes in India’s education system, including better infrastructure, teacher availability, and transparent student grievance redressal mechanisms.
Firm Stand on Illegal Immigration
Addressing the sensitive issue of illegal immigration, Singh reiterated ABVP’s support for the PAN India voter list revision (SIR). He strongly backed the central principle of the “Detect–Delete–Deport” policy, stating that maintaining accurate voter records is vital for national security and democratic integrity.
He applauded the Assam government for acting against illegal settlements and stressed that complete fencing of India’s international borders is necessary to prevent cross-border infiltration.
“Border security is not just a regional issue—it is crucial for the nation’s overall safety and stability,” Singh said.
Opposition to Closure of Government Schools
Singh criticised the ongoing closure of government schools in some states due to staff shortages. He stressed that shutting down educational institutions cannot be a viable solution.
“Schools are not merely centres of academic learning; they are essential social institutions that contribute to community life,” he said. He urged governments to prioritise strengthening these schools through adequate recruitment and improved infrastructure rather than closing them.
Youth Participation Key to Nation-Building
Highlighting the importance of youth involvement in national progress, Singh emphasised that student participation must extend beyond campuses and into broader nation-building initiatives. He also highlighted ABVP’s focus on social unity, environmental responsibility, and community service, urging students to understand their role in shaping a self-reliant India.
“ABVP will continue to work with the country’s youth to build a stronger, more united and self-reliant India,” Singh said.
