Imran Khan’s family alleges illegal isolation inside Adiala Jail, demanding immediate access amid rising concerns over his safety and health. PTI urges the government to clarify rumours and ensure the former Pakistan Prime Minister’s constitutional and human rights.

Imran Khan’s family has raised serious alarm over the former Pakistan Prime Minister’s situation inside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, claiming he is being held in “illegal isolation” with no access granted to his family members, legal counsel or senior party leadership for weeks. The accusations have generated fresh tension in Pakistan’s already polarised political environment, as concerns grow regarding Khan’s health, safety and fundamental rights.

In a strong statement released by his family, they alleged that all communication with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder had been cut off without any legal justification. “Imran Khan is in illegal isolation. People keep asking us about his health and safety, but the truth is, we have no access to anyone who can give us verified information,” the statement read. The family added that they have lost trust in official briefings from prison authorities, remarking, “We do not trust a single word from them.”

Khan’s sister emphasised that the authorities could resolve the matter immediately by simply following judicial orders that ensure his right to meet lawyers and family. “The solution is simple… follow court orders and allow his family, his lawyers, and his party leadership to meet him,” she said.

The family further warned that while they believe Khan remains safe, this confidence stems solely from their belief that the authorities “would not dare to hurt even a hair on Imran Khan’s head.” They insisted that the potential fallout of any harm to him would be far too severe, stating, “They are well aware of the consequences… He is the leader of at least 90 per cent of Pakistan.”

Detailing the timeline of their last interactions, the statement noted that the final proper family meeting took place on October 16, during the concluding day of the jail trial involving Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi. Since then, only two short meetings have been allowed, both involving Dr Uzma Khan — first on October 28 and then on November 4 — each lasting no longer than 20 minutes.

“Since that day, we have been completely cut off. No family, no lawyers, and no party members have been allowed any access whatsoever,” the family added.

In a development that has intensified criticism, the family claimed they were informed that no meetings would be permitted “until Asim Munir receives his extension notification,” referring to the Pakistani Army Chief. Questioning the relevance of this condition, they asked, “Why is a family’s access being tied to a government servant’s extension?”

Meanwhile, social media platforms in Pakistan have been inundated with rumours regarding Imran Khan’s health, with some posts falsely claiming that he had been secretly transferred or had even died. Responding to these claims, Adiala Jail authorities denied all such reports. According to statements quoted by local media, Rawalpindi prison officials said, “There is no truth to reports about his transfer from Adiala jail. He is fully healthy and receiving complete medical attention.” They described the circulating rumours as “baseless” and assured that his well-being was being safeguarded.

Khan, who has been incarcerated since August 2023, is currently facing multiple legal cases, including charges related to corruption, leaking official documents, and terrorism. His detention has sparked repeated protests, political challenges, and international human rights concerns.

PTI, in a separate statement, demanded that the government immediately dismiss all false rumours and arrange a meeting between Khan and his family. The party emphasised that the state bears full responsibility for safeguarding the former prime minister’s security, human rights, and constitutional protections. PTI leaders warned that they would pursue all legal, judicial and political avenues to secure transparent information regarding Khan’s health and treatment.

As tensions escalate, the controversy surrounding Khan’s alleged isolation is likely to intensify political divisions in Pakistan, where the former prime minister continues to command significant public support despite his imprisonment.
