The  Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) is arriving Tripura to assess the flood and post flood situation of the state on the spot. The team headed by B.C. Joshi, Joint Secretary (Foreigners Division), Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi to Tripura for assessment of flood situation inlcudes representatives from the Departments of Agriculture, Department of Expenditure (Ministry of Finance), Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Water Resources), Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

In the meantime, Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey along with PWD, Health Secretary- Kiran Gitte and Secretary Power department Abhishek SIingh held a Press conference at Agartala Press Club and briefed about the latest flood situation.

Speaking to the media, the Revenue secretary said, extremely heavy and continuous rainfall occurred during the period 19-23 August caused unprecedented floods in the State. There has been comparatively less rainfall since August 24. But the Water level of the Gomati River at Sonamura is still above the critical level.

He said, as on date, 492 relief camps are operational by the District Administration, providing shelter to over 72,000 persons in the State. The District Administration is continuing to provide necessary relief, including food, drinking water, medical help etc. in relief camps. Clothes have also been distributed to about 300 needy people in Amarpur and Karbook Sub-Division.

As on today, 6 teams of State Disaster Response Force (TSR)) and 5 team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are working in relief operations in Gomati and Sepahijala Districts. About 500 volunteers of Civil Defense and Aapda Mitra continue to be engaged in relief operations.

He confirmed, total 31 persons have lost their lives, 2 were injured and one person was missing.

Pandey also said, total 977 out of 3273 Drinking Water Schemes have been restored so far. Remaining Drinking Water Sources are also being repaired urgently. It is being ensured that all Drinking Water sources are tested for quality & conforming to BIS standards (quality). DMs have been directed to provide safe drinking water through water tankers as well whenever required.

To tackle the fallout of floods on health aspects, doctors have visited relief camps 1207 times and treated 35,993 persons, carried out 1799 health camps for 42,800 persons. For carrying out disinfection and anti-diarrhoea measures, the health department will procure 2000 bags of bleaching powder, 2 QRS packets, large quantities of halogen tablets, zinc tablets and medicines for fever, lotions etc On the

A committee headed by Prashant Badal Negi, Director, Tourism Department along with officers from other departments has been constituted to interact with the NGOs for collection and re-distribution of relief materials received on donation from different organisations.

The Relief Rehabilitation and Disaster Management Department has released Rs.69 crore to eight districts and Rs.5 crore each to the Agriculture and Power Department. Thus total release of fund is Rs.79 crore, the Revenue Secretary added.
