In view of the upcoming by-elections scheduled for September 5th, officials from the Election Commission of India (ECI) convened on Monday to assess the state of preparedness for the Sonamura and Dhanpur assembly constituencies. The meetings, held at the Sepahijala district headquarters, involved discussions on critical matters related to the elections.
The ECI officials, led by Principal Secretary Arvind Anand, Secretary Santosh Kr. Dubey, and Assistant Section Officer Ankur Matla, engaged in separate meetings to delve into the logistical and administrative arrangements necessary for the smooth conduct of the elections. High on the agenda was the emphasis on conducting the bye-elections with a commitment to ensuring fairness, freedom, and tranquility in the electoral process. Security arrangements were also discussed extensively during these deliberations.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Tripura, Puneet Agarwal, District Magistrate and Collector of Sepahijala, Vishal Kumar, and other pertinent officials, including the Superintendent of Police for Sepahijala, were in attendance during these pivotal meetings.
As part of their comprehensive strategy, ECI officials are set to hold a broader meeting with the District Magistrates from all eight districts to address the special summary revision of the electoral rolls. This revision is crucial in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
The much-anticipated bye-elections in Sonamura and Dhanpur assembly constituencies are slated for September 5th, with the vote count scheduled for September 8th. Sonamura constituency is set to have 51 polling stations, while Dhanpur will have 59 polling stations in operation. A total of 93,234 eligible voters are registered to exercise their democratic rights across these two assembly seats.
In the Boxonagar constituency, 43,087 voters are enrolled, with 22,166 males and 20,921 females poised to participate. Meanwhile, the Dhanpur constituency boasts a total of 50,147 registered voters, comprising 25,944 males and 24,203 females.
The review meeting underscores the Election Commission’s commitment to conducting fair and transparent elections, fostering a conducive environment for citizens to exercise their democratic rights without hindrance. As the election date approaches, all eyes will be on Tripura as it prepares to make its voice heard through the ballot box.
