Former Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma appointed Maharashtra Governor in major constitutional reshuffle approved by President Droupadi Murmu. Several governors and lieutenant governors reassigned across India, marking historic representation for Tripura leadership.
Former Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma has been appointed the new Governor of Maharashtra. He is currently serving as the Governor of Telangana.
The appointment was made as part of a major reshuffle in the appointments of Governors and Lieutenant Governors for several states and Union Territories approved by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday.
It may be noted that this is the first time someone from Tripura has been given the opportunity to serve as Governor of major states like Telangana and Maharashtra.
The notification issued in this regard further stated that Shiv Pratap Shukla, currently the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed as the new Governor of Telangana, succeeding Dev Varma.
In another key appointment, former Bihar minister Nand Kishore Yadav has been named the Governor of Nagaland, while former Northern Army Commander Syed Ata Hasnain, a retired lieutenant general of the Indian Army, has been appointed Governor of Bihar.
The President also appointed R. N. Ravi, currently the Governor of Tamil Nadu, as the new Governor of West Bengal following the resignation of C. V. Ananda Bose. Meanwhile, Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Governor of Kerala, will discharge the functions of the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Among the Union Territories, Kavinder Gupta, the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed Governor of Himachal Pradesh. Vinai Kumar Saxena, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will take over as the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Former Indian ambassador to the United States Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed the new Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.

According to the official notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan, the appointments and transfers will come into effect from the dates the respective appointees assume charge of their offices.
