Dr Saha Stresses On AIs, Drones, Technology-Driven Agriculture at Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha launched the ambitious 15-day ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ from Bishramganj in Sepahijala district, underscoring the transformative potential of technology-driven agriculture to position Tripura as a food-surplus state. Speaking at the event, Saha emphasized the integration of cutting-edge technologies such as drones, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and other modern tools to revolutionize farming practices. He highlighted that these advancements could significantly boost diverse food production, thereby enhancing farmers’ incomes and contributing to the state’s economic growth.
The Chief Minister aligned his vision with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s national agenda, which prioritizes increasing farmers’ earnings, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and achieving long-term food self-sufficiency through scientific and technological interventions. “The ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan,’ running from May 29 to June 12, is a key initiative to realize this vision,” Dr Saha stated. He elaborated that the campaign aims to directly engage with farmers, raising awareness about innovative farming technologies and government schemes designed to support them. Additionally, the initiative will collect valuable feedback from farmers and document innovative agricultural practices to foster knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.

Reflecting on recent economic developments, Dr Saha highlighted the outcomes of the two-day ‘Rising North East Investors Summit 2025,’ held in New Delhi. He announced that the summit resulted in Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) worth over ₹30,000 crore for investments across the eight northeastern states, with Tripura securing an impressive ₹15,646 crore. This substantial investment inflow is expected to bolster the state’s agricultural and industrial sectors, creating new opportunities for growth and development.

Dr Saha outlined six key strategies championed by Prime Minister Modi to enhance food production nationwide: diversifying agricultural output, strengthening food processing industries, minimizing post-harvest losses, providing comprehensive support to farmers, adopting advanced technologies, and adding value to agricultural products. These strategies, he noted, form the backbone of Tripura’s agricultural roadmap under the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan.’

The Chief Minister also shared significant achievements in Tripura’s agricultural sector. He noted that the state is home to 4.72 lakh farmers, and their average monthly income has risen to ₹13,590, a marked increase from ₹6,580 in the 2015-16 financial year. This growth reflects the state government’s focused efforts to improve farmers’ livelihoods through policy interventions and infrastructure development. Saha further revealed that ₹303.42 crore has been invested to modernize and develop infrastructure for 144 markets across Tripura, ensuring better access to markets for farmers and streamlined agricultural trade.

Positioning Tripura as a regional leader, Dr Saha claimed that the state ranks second among the eight northeastern states in terms of GDP and per-capita income, underscoring its economic progress and potential. The event also featured remarks from State Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath, who echoed the Chief Minister’s commitment to advancing agricultural innovation and supporting the farming community.
The launch of the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’ marks a significant step toward modernizing agriculture in Tripura, aligning with national goals of sustainability and self-reliance while empowering farmers through technology and investment.
