Eminent physician Dr Pradip Bhaumik nominated to World Gastroenterology Organisation (WGO) committee, marking a major global recognition for Tripura and India. His role strengthens international engagement in digestive health, community outreach, and medical advocacy.
Eminent physician, Dr Pradip Bhaumik, has been nominated to a key committee of the World Gastroenterology Organisation.
In an official communication, World Gastroenterology Organisation President Professor Geoffrey Metz said that Dr Bhaumik has been selected as a member of the Media and Community Engagement Committee of the WGO. He will serve in this capacity for a two-year term from January 2026 to December 2027.
Established in 1958, the World Gastroenterology Organisation is a global federation comprising 120 gastroenterology and hepatology member societies and four regional associations, representing more than 60,000 individual members worldwide. The organisation works to enhance education and training standards in gastroenterology, hepatology, endoscopy and related disciplines, with a focus on information dissemination, education, training and advocacy.
Dr Bhaumik has been actively associated with several national professional bodies. He is a member of the National Governing Body of the Association of Physicians of India for the terms 2022–2025 and 2025–2028. He has also served as Sectional President of Medicine, including Physiology, of the Indian Science Congress Association during 2023–2024.
He is currently the director and founder president of the Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura, a well-known social organisation in the state. Under his leadership, the foundation has been implementing a range of innovative public health and awareness programmes across Tripura.
The nomination to a global body in the field of digestive health is expected to strengthen Tripura’s presence on the international medical platform and highlight its contributions to community-based health initiatives.

Dr Bhaumik expressed his gratitude to all concerned for the honour and said he looked forward to contributing to the global efforts of the organisation in advancing digestive health and community engagement.
