Protesting against the high-handedness of Police during weekend curfew, vegetable and fruit sellers of Panichowki bazaar in Kailashahar demanded the removal of the OC of Kailashahar Police Station on Monday.

The aggrieved traders claimed that the sub-divisional administration while announcing the weekend curfew on Friday over Public Address (PA) system, mentioned that vegetable and fruit sellers would be allowed to keep their shops open on Saturday.

“Accordingly we opened the shops on Saturday – however, Kailashahar PS OC Partha Munda along with TSR jawans started ‘beating’ the traders for ‘flouting’ the curfew”, alleged the traders and added, Police left three vegetable sellers injured including the secretary of Vegetable Traders’ Committee – Gopal Das.

Irked at the Police action, vegetable sellers today demanded a public apology from the OC as well as the removal of OC for his ‘inhuman’ activity.

To this end, detailing their complaints, vegetable and fruit sellers wrote a letter to SDM Shanti Ranjan Chakma and informed the SDM that Vegetable traders would keep their shops shut for an indefinite period until their demands were met.
