Both the Houses have been adjourned for the day following the ruckus created by the Opposition over various issues. When the Lok Sabha met at 2:00 PM after the first adjournment, the opposition members continued with their protest, disrupting the proceedings of the House. BJP MP Jagdambika Pal, who was on the chair, appealed to the opposition members to go back to their seats and allow the House to function. Meanwhile Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said that he should be allowed to speak on the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024 which was moved for consideration and Passing. Mr Meghwal said that it is an important Bill related to the interest of Schedule Tribes but the opposition members continued with their protest. Despite the repeated appeal of the Chair, the opposition continued with their sloganeering, forcing the chair to adjourn the House for the day.
Earlier, when the Lok Sabha assembled at 11:00 AM, the house remembered the country’s brave soldier and paid tributes on the eve of 26th Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla recalled the bravery and valour of Indian Armed forces, who sacrificed their life to protect the nation. The House saluted the brave warriors who displayed exemplary courage in driving out the enemy from Kargil, which is one of the most difficult terrains and adverse weather conditions. The House also observed silence in the honour of the country’s brave soldiers. Soon after this, Mr Birla tried to run Question Hour but the opposition members trooped into the well of the House demanding discussion on various issues including Special Intensive Revision in Bihar and its roll back. Mr Birla appealed to the opposition to allow Question Hour saying that their conduct is not in accordance to the dignity of the House. He said, for the last few days it has been observed that the proceedings of the House are being disrupted in a planned manner and slogans are being raised with placards. Mr Birla said that such behaviour is not appropriate for democracy. But the opposition members did not pay heed to his appeal and continued with their protest. As the pandemonium continued, the Speaker adjourned the House till 2:00 PM.
A similar scene was witnessed in the Rajya Sabha. The Rajya Sabha was first adjourned at 12 noon and then finally for the day following the opposition ruckus over various issues. When the Rajya Sabha met after the first adjournment at 12 noon, Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was on the chair, tried to run Question Hour, but the opposition members continued their protest raising their demand. The Chair appealed to them to allow Question Hour but they continued sloganeering. Amid the noisy scene, Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the Question Hour is important as the questions are related to farmers’ welfare and their concerns. Mr Chouhan said, he wants to make a reply but the members are not participating in the Question Hour. Later Mr Chouhan replied to a question related to the outcomes of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan. As the pandemonium continued, the Chair adjourned the House finally for the day.
Earlier, When the Rajya Sabha assembled at 11:00 AM, newly elected members representing Tamil Nadu for Rajya Sabha took oath. Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) Chief and Renowned actor Kamal Haasan took oath. Besides, Rajathi, S R Sivalangam and P Wilson of DMK also took oath as Rajya Sabha members. After the completion of Oath of the members, Deputy Chairman Harivansh said that he has received 28 adjournment notices from different political parties relating to various issues including Special Intensive Revision in Bihar but the Deputy Chairman rejected their notices citing ruling. He also appealed to the members to maintain discipline and decorum as per the laid down norms and respect each other’s rights to speak permitted by the Chair. When he started Zero Hour, the opposition members started sloganeering over their issues following which he adjourned the House till 12 noon.
