BJP spokesperson Subrata Chakraborty, in a press conference on Monday, accused the opposition CPI-M of spreading falsehoods to discredit the Bharatiya Janata Party. Chakraborty asserted that the BJP has been working tirelessly for the welfare of the people, while the CPI-M attempts to tarnish its image. He referenced the by-election victory of Dipak Majumder in the Ramnagar Assembly constituency, dismissing CPI-M’s claims about Majumder needing to resign as Mayor, noting there is no constitutional requirement for such a resignation and suggesting legal recourse if there are any disputes.
Chakraborty also addressed the controversy surrounding Shantiniketan Medical College, labeling CPI-M’s claims as false. He clarified that the IGM Hospital would remain independent, with Shantiniketan officials temporarily working at Agartala Dental College for training purposes.
Highlighting the BJP government’s initiatives, including the Ayushman Bharat scheme and other healthcare projects, Chakraborty emphasized the significant improvements in local health centers. He accused the CPI-M of spreading lies out of frustration over these successes. Chakraborty also reminded the public of various scandals that plagued the previous CPI-M government, such as the GNET and 10,323 teacher recruitment scandals, which he claimed had caused significant harm to the state.
On educational issues, Chakraborty refuted CPI-M’s claim that schools would be shut down, explaining that the proximity of multiple schools within a short distance and low student numbers were the actual concerns. Regarding the MGNREGA scheme, he mentioned that Rs. 30 crore worth of work was being carried out without any commission.
Chakraborty said, a major defeat for both Congress and CPI-M in the upcoming Panchayat elections, asserting the BJP’s dominance.
