Biplab Kumar Deb leads Indian parliamentary delegation to Bhutan, strengthening India-Bhutan parliamentary cooperation, diplomatic engagement, and bilateral friendship through high-level meetings with Bhutan’s King, Prime Minister, and senior officials.
Parliamentary cooperation between India and Bhutan received renewed attention as a high-level Indian delegation arrived in Bhutan on Wednesday to reinforce bilateral engagement and institutional collaboration between the two neighbouring countries.
The delegation includes 51 members comprising parliamentarians from both Houses of Parliament along with officials from the Ministry of External Affairs. The visit is focused on strengthening parliamentary exchanges, expanding diplomatic understanding, and promoting deeper cooperation between India and Bhutan through structured institutional dialogue.
Former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb is playing a leading role during the diplomatic mission as the President of the India-Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship Group. Deb has been actively participating in discussions related to parliamentary practices, bilateral relations, and future cooperation between the two nations.
The Indian delegation is scheduled to hold meetings with Bhutan’s King and Prime Minister, reflecting the importance attached to the visit by both countries. The engagements are expected to focus on strengthening democratic institutions, encouraging parliamentary exchanges, and deepening cultural and strategic partnerships that have historically defined India-Bhutan relations.
Officials associated with the visit stated that the presence of members from both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha demonstrates India’s continued commitment to parliamentary diplomacy as a key pillar of foreign relations. The initiative also highlights New Delhi’s emphasis on maintaining close ties with Bhutan, one of India’s most trusted regional partners.
The visit follows a preparatory meeting held in New Delhi where members of the delegation discussed strategies aimed at expanding parliamentary collaboration and enhancing long-term friendship between the two countries. The discussions reportedly focused on institutional cooperation, policy dialogue, and cultural connectivity.
Sharing his experience after arriving in Bhutan, Deb expressed appreciation for the reception extended to the Indian delegation. In a social media post, he said he was pleased to receive a warm welcome in Bhutan and looked forward to meaningful engagements aimed at further strengthening the longstanding friendship and parliamentary ties between the two nations.
India and Bhutan have maintained strong diplomatic relations for decades, built on mutual trust, economic cooperation, cultural understanding, and strategic partnership. Parliamentary exchanges are increasingly being viewed as an important mechanism to deepen people-to-people contact and support stronger democratic engagement between the neighbouring countries.
