Biplab Highlights Developmental Push, Slams Opposition Politics After Parliament Session
Lok Sabha MP and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Thursday outlined the developmental initiatives taken up during his tenure as an MP while also launching a sharp attack on opposition parties for what he termed as their “obstructionist politics” in Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference in the Daleshwar area, Deb, who represents Tripura in the Lok Sabha, presented a detailed account of the progress achieved in connectivity, infrastructure, and welfare measures since the present government came to power, while also flagging pending proposals and emerging challenges.
Development and Connectivity
Deb began by highlighting the improvement of road connectivity across Tripura, a sector he said has seen rapid upgrades under the BJP-led government. He credited both central and state governments for pushing infrastructure projects that are helping bridge rural-urban gaps.
Sharing details of his tenure of “one year and two months” as a Member of Parliament, Deb said five families from Tripura had received assistance from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund, while a new initiative to showcase local crafts was already in motion. The Union Civil Aviation Ministry, he noted, has approved a dedicated counter for Tripura’s handloom and handicraft items at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, which will allow artisans to sell products directly at low cost.
At the same time, Deb expressed concern that the long-pending immigration centre at MBB Airport was yet to receive approval. Without it, he said, the airport cannot function as a fully operational international hub despite the government’s ambition to strengthen Tripura’s global air connectivity.
Tourism and Education Aspirations
On tourism, Deb admitted that a central evaluation team had rejected four ropeway proposals as commercially unviable. However, he asserted that he was determined to see ropeways built at Matabari in Gomati district and Chabimura in Gomati’s Amarpur sub-division, two major tourist destinations with cultural and ecological significance.
He also revealed that he has placed a request before Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the establishment of a premier institution like an IIM or IIT in Tripura, adding that he was hopeful the state would receive one in the coming days. “Tripura’s youth deserve access to top-class institutions within the state. It will be a milestone for our education sector,” he remarked.
Border Security and Immigration
Turning to security issues, Deb raised serious concern about illegal immigration from Bangladesh through stretches of border fencing that remain broken or incomplete. He warned that such infiltration would not be tolerated under any circumstances, adding that the Rohingya infiltration issue posed an additional risk to the state’s security and demographic balance.
“The Centre and state must work in coordination to ensure the sanctity of our borders,” he stressed.
Attack on Opposition
Shifting to politics, Deb trained his guns on opposition parties, accusing them of disrupting the recently concluded monsoon session of Parliament. According to him, critical debates on issues like Bihar’s voter list revision and a bill seeking to disqualify jailed ministers were repeatedly stalled by opposition MPs.
“They sleep with their eyes open—waking them is impossible,” Deb quipped, accusing the opposition of wasting parliamentary time.
He ridiculed demands for debates on Election Commission decisions, pointing out that autonomous bodies cannot be directly answered for by ministers. “Instead of attending the Commission’s invitation for dialogue, they chose to stage drama on Delhi streets. Many of them can’t even walk two steps without falling ill, yet claim to fight for the people,” he said.
We are committed to the overall welfare of the people. As a Member of Parliament, fulfilling my responsibility towards the people of the state, I discussed in the press conference the issues raised in the recent Parliament sessions related to the state’s interests, the… pic.twitter.com/lqLjbrXloN

Criticism of Rahul, Tejashwi, and Stalin
Deb also mocked the recent rally jointly addressed by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, which was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. He termed it “a desperate display” by opposition forces.
Referring to Stalin’s earlier remarks against Biharis, Deb said sharing a stage with him amounted to political bankruptcy on the part of Rahul and Tejashwi. “This alliance insults Bihar’s proud legacy. Leaders like Jagjivan Ram stood tall during the Emergency, but Rahul and Tejashwi are willing to compromise that heritage for short-term gains,” he charged.
He further dismissed the opposition’s call for a debate on “Operation Sindoor,” claiming the Prime Minister had already settled the matter with his response. “The PM’s reply itself marked them with sindoor—there is nothing left to debate,” Deb said with characteristic sarcasm.
Prediction for Polls
Concluding his address, Deb expressed confidence in the BJP’s electoral prospects, particularly in Bihar. “The people of Bihar know where their trust lies—with Prime Minister Modi. The results will speak for themselves,” he said, predicting another strong mandate for the NDA.
The press conference, blending developmental updates with sharp political rhetoric, highlighted Deb’s attempt to position himself as both a champion of Tripura’s progress and a vocal defender of the ruling BJP at the national level.
