Bikash Debbarma calls for tribal unity ahead of the August 9 rally in Tripura, organized to mark International Indigenous People’s Day. The event will showcase BJP-led developmental efforts in tribal areas and mobilize support for continued empowerment and welfare of indigenous communities across the state.

In an effort to highlight the achievements and ongoing developmental initiatives for tribal communities, the BJP’s Pradesh Janajati Morcha is set to organize a large-scale public rally on August 9, 2025, commemorating International Indigenous People’s Day. The event is expected to attract thousands of participants from across Tripura’s tribal heartlands.

The rally aims to shed light on the significant strides made by the Central and State governments in uplifting tribal populations in Tripura. The initiative is being spearheaded by the Janajati Morcha, the tribal wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with the full backing of the Ministry for Tribal Welfare.

In the lead-up to the rally, a series of public engagement programs and awareness campaigns are being conducted across tribal-majority regions. One such campaign was held on Tuesday at a local market gathering organized by the Mungiakami Shakti Kendra under the 29-Krishnapur Mandal. The event witnessed strong local participation and enthusiasm.

Addressing the gathering, Bikash Debbarma, Minister for Tribal Welfare, delivered a stirring keynote speech calling for tribal unity and maximum participation in the August 9 rally. He stressed that the tribal communities have seen unprecedented progress under the BJP administration, both at the Centre and in the state.

“The BJP government’s tireless efforts for tribal advancement over the past few years are unparalleled in the last 35 years of administrative history,” said Debbarma. “Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, government facilities have reached even the remotest hilly villages.”

The Minister highlighted how previously neglected tribal families have started experiencing real change in terms of education, healthcare, potable water access, and employment opportunities. He further emphasized that the August 9 rally will not only serve as a celebration of tribal identity and pride, but also act as a platform to extend the reach of the government’s people-centric policies.

The event also featured addresses from Gopal Das, Vice-President of Krishnapur Mandal, and Bidyut Debbarma, Member of the District Council (MDC), among others. All the speakers underscored the importance of unity among the tribal population and acknowledged the tangible progress made in tribal regions due to proactive governance.

They reiterated the call for strong participation in the upcoming rally and affirmed that it would be a significant moment for tribal empowerment and visibility on both the state and national stage.

The International Indigenous People’s Day, celebrated annually on August 9, recognizes and honors the unique cultures, rights, and contributions of indigenous peoples around the world. In Tripura, where tribal communities form a vital part of the population, the day holds particular importance.

This year’s rally is poised to serve as both a celebration of indigenous heritage and a reaffirmation of the government’s commitment to the welfare of these communities. With major tribal leaders, grassroots workers, and citizens preparing to converge on the rally ground, the atmosphere in tribal regions is already charged with anticipation.
