Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said today that no genuine voter will be deprived of voting rights in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the State.
During the brief discussion on Special Intensive Revision in the State assembly, Mr. Choudhary said voting rights of Dalits, backwards, and minorities will not be eliminated. Mr. Choudhary criticised the Opposition RJD and Congress for creating a false narrative that a particular community was being targeted in the SIR exercise. He said there is no discrimination in the exercise on the grounds of caste, creed and religion.
Another senior Minister of Nitish Kumar’s government, Vijay Kumar Choudhary, said the SIR is underway in a transparent manner in the State, and if any genuine voter is deprived, the government will take cognisance.
Earlier, starting the all-party brief discussion on Special Intensive Revision, the leader of the Opposition, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, alleged that the timing of SIR is questionable because the State Assembly elections are going to be held soon. Mr. Yadav claimed that the NDA partner, Telugu Desam Party Chief Chandra Babu Naidu, has also raised some concerns, and besides this, JD(U) in the Lok Sabha has also opposed it. The RJD leader appealed to all parties to come on the same page so that genuine voters of Bihar are not deprived in the state in haste. Members of Congress, CPI-ML, CPM, CPI, AIMIM and Hindustani Awam Morcha ( Secular) also expressed their views on SIR.
Today is the fourth day of the Monsoon session of the Bihar Legislature. Speaker Nand Kishore has allowed discussion on the SIR issue, ending the continued logjam for three days over the issue.
