PM Modi was served traditional Bengali snack jhalmuri during the NDA meeting in New Delhi by West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari. The gathering celebrated 12 years of the NDA government and marked Modi’s historic achievement as India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister.
A light-hearted cultural moment stole attention during a key National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting in the national capital on Wednesday when West Bengal BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari served the popular Bengali snack ‘jhalmuri’ to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The meeting was held to celebrate 12 years of the NDA government at the Centre and to mark a historic political milestone achieved by the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Modi shared a video of the interaction through his official Instagram account, where Suvendu Adhikari was seen serving the spicy puffed rice snack to the Prime Minister. The gesture quickly attracted attention on social media, with supporters highlighting the symbolic connection between regional culture and national politics.
The video further showed Prime Minister Modi encouraging the vendor to serve jhalmuri to other NDA leaders present at the gathering. Several leaders were seen enjoying the traditional Bengali delicacy, creating a relaxed atmosphere amid an otherwise significant political event. BJP leaders and senior alliance members gathered around the snack counter, with BJP President Nitin Nabin also seen tasting the popular street food.
Jhalmuri, a beloved snack in West Bengal and eastern India, carries political significance for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During the campaign for the West Bengal Assembly elections, the snack became closely associated with Prime Minister Modi after he made an unscheduled stop in Jhargram to enjoy a serving of jhalmuri while campaigning. The incident gained widespread attention and was later used by party supporters as a symbol of cultural outreach and grassroots connection.
The name “jhalmuri” comes from the Bengali word “jhal,” meaning spicy or hot. During election campaigns, the snack evolved into a political metaphor representing both the intensity of electoral competition and the cultural identity of Bengal. The latest appearance of jhalmuri at the NDA meeting revived memories of that campaign period and underscored the BJP’s efforts to maintain its connection with the state’s cultural traditions.
Beyond the symbolic snack-sharing moment, the NDA meeting carried major political importance. The gathering was organized to commemorate the completion of 12 years of NDA governance under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Leaders from across the alliance reviewed achievements of the government, discussed future policy priorities, and outlined strategies for the coming years.
Sources indicated that the NDA was also expected to adopt a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Modi for surpassing a historic record previously held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru. On June 10, Modi crossed Nehru’s record of 4,399 days in office as an elected Prime Minister.
The achievement places Modi among the most significant political figures in India’s democratic history. While former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi served for more than 14 years in office, her tenure was not continuous. As a result, Narendra Modi has become India’s longest continuously serving elected Prime Minister.

The NDA meeting therefore combined political celebration with cultural symbolism, as leaders marked both the alliance’s 12-year journey and the Prime Minister’s record-breaking tenure. The jhalmuri served by Suvendu Adhikari emerged as a memorable highlight of the event, reflecting the blend of regional identity and national politics that continues to shape India’s political landscape.
