Benchmark domestic equity indices declined for the second consecutive week, as renewed global tensions, elevated crude oil prices, and uncertainty in global bond markets weighed on investor sentiment.
During the week, the 30-share Sensex at the Bombay Stock Exchange shed 468 points, or 0.6 per cent to close at 77,541. The National Stock Exchange Nifty 50 dropped 114 points, or nearly half a per cent to end at 24,252. In the broader market indices on National Stock Exchange, Midcap 100 index dipped marginally, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose 1.2 per cent during the week.
On the sectoral front, Nifty IT and FMCG declined by more than two per cent each, while Nifty PSU Bank fell 1.3 per cent. In contrast, Nifty Metal and Realty gained nearly two per cent each. Nifty Media advanced 1.4 per cent, while Nifty Private Bank rose by more than one per cent.
In the forex market, the Indian rupee depreciated by 28 paise this week to settle at 95 rupees and 71 paise against the US dollar.
