A one-day seminar on Soft Skills and Interview Preparedness was held at Bir Bikram Memorial College (BBMC), focusing on communication, resume building, personality development and interview techniques, with 40 students set to receive government-funded scholarships for certified online soft-skills training.
Bir Bikram Memorial College (BBMC) hosted a one-day Seminar on Soft Skills and Interview Preparedness (SSIP) on Monday, marking a significant initiative aimed at strengthening the employability skills of undergraduate students. Organized by the College Placement Cell in collaboration with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Economics, the programme sought to build students’ confidence and readiness for competitive professional environments.
The seminar was conducted in partnership with Insyssky Soft Tech Pvt. Ltd., a training and skill-development company known for its work in enhancing youth employability. The event took place at the College Conference Hall and witnessed active participation from faculty members, resource persons, and a large number of students from various departments.
According to an official press release, the seminar aimed to develop essential soft skills among students—skills that are increasingly becoming vital for achieving success in modern workplaces. These include communication skills, personality development, professional etiquette, interpersonal behaviour, teamwork, leadership qualities, and interview preparedness techniques. The press note further highlighted that the session was specially designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and corporate expectations.
The event began with opening remarks by Dr. Basudeb Bhattacharya, Coordinator of the Placement Cell, who introduced the dignitaries and resource persons while stressing the importance of structured career preparedness programmes. He emphasized that young graduates must equip themselves not only with academic knowledge but also with the practical communication and behavioural skills required to excel in job interviews and workplace settings.
This was followed by a Welcome Address delivered by Dr. Tapas Kumar Sethy, Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce. In his speech, Dr. Sethy explained how soft skills form the foundation for professional success and personal growth. He stated that in today’s evolving job market, employers prioritize candidates who can communicate effectively, collaborate with teams, and demonstrate adaptive thinking.
Dr. Sujit Das, Head of the Department of Commerce, delivered an encouraging and insightful address, appreciating the initiative taken by the Placement Cell. Dr. Das urged students to take maximum advantage of such training opportunities, emphasizing that interview skills and personal development are as crucial as domain knowledge. He added that consistent participation in such programmes could significantly improve students’ confidence levels and future career prospects.
The seminar was attended by faculty members including Assistant Professor Rajlaxmi Chakma and Guest Lecturer Debapriya Majumder, who extended support and motivation to the student participants.
The technical session was conducted by resource persons from Insyssky Soft Tech Pvt. Ltd., including Trisha Bhattacharjee and her team. Through a series of presentations, interactive discussions and live demonstrations, the trainers explained key components of interview preparedness. They elaborated on resume drafting methods, communication strategies, body language patterns, grooming standards, time management, and logical problem-solving approaches that are essential during interviews.
Participants received practical insights into the expectations of recruiters and the dynamics of corporate culture. Real-world examples and activity-based learning exercises helped students understand how soft skills contribute to professional success. The trainers also discussed common interview mistakes and offered techniques for overcoming stress and anxiety during job interactions.
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of a special online soft-skills training opportunity for selected students. Organizers informed that 40 students, chosen from among registered participants, will be shortlisted for a fully funded online training programme. These selected candidates will receive a 100% scholarship sponsored by the Directorate of Skill Development, Government of Tripura.
This scholarship will enable the shortlisted students to complete a certified soft-skills course without any financial burden, giving them a valuable opportunity to enhance their employability. The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to improving skill development standards and supporting youth empowerment in the state.
Students expressed enthusiasm about the seminar, noting that the interactive format and expert guidance helped them gain a clearer understanding of workplace requirements. Many participants acknowledged that such training programmes are essential in boosting confidence and improving their readiness for future job interviews.
