The opposition CPI(M) called for a bandh in Tripura on Sunday to protest the killing of their party candidate, Badal Shil, but it had little impact on daily life. As the day went on, traffic normalized, and most businesses stayed open, except for some that were closed for the usual Sunday off. CPI(M) activists were seen trying to enforce the bandh, but their efforts did not disrupt normal activities, and no incidents were reported.
Badal Shil, a CPI(M) candidate for the South Tripura zilla parishad, was allegedly attacked by individuals affiliated with the ruling BJP while on his way to file his nomination papers at Rajnagar Block. He succumbed to his injuries on Saturday at Agartala’s GBP Hospital. On Sunday, his body was brought to the CPI(M) party office, where leaders, including Jitendra Choudhury, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, and former Assembly deputy speaker Pabitra Kar, paid their last respects.
