Bapi Debnath , a resident of Chandrapur at the outskirt of Agartala created record when he cycled up to Mt Everest Base camp. He happened to the first Bengali , third Indian to have climbed up to the Everest Base camp by cycling. So far altogether eight persons could achieve this rare feat.
A former student of Umakanta Academy he started his journey on May 21 last with a single gear bicycle from Kolkata and reached the destination on July 14. He took the Bihar to Nepal route to reach the base camp.
Bapi is presently staying in Kolkata.
He informed the world about the achievement in a video message.
