Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) at Agartala, Srimantapur, and Sabroom land ports in Tripura on June 9. The digital platform aims to strengthen smart border management, enhance security, streamline cross-border trade, improve passenger movement, and boost operational efficiency through technology-driven solutions.
In a major step toward strengthening India’s border infrastructure and enhancing cross-border trade management, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will launch the Land Port Management System (LPMS) at three key land ports in Tripura on June 9. The initiative is expected to modernize border operations through advanced digital technology and improve security, transparency, and efficiency across India’s international land borders.
According to official sources, the LPMS will be introduced at the Agartala, Srimantapur, and Sabroom Land Ports in Tripura. The system is designed as a comprehensive digital platform that integrates multiple land port operations into a unified framework, enabling secure and real-time exchange of logistics and regulatory information among stakeholders.
The launch marks a significant milestone in India’s efforts to establish a technology-enabled smart border management ecosystem. Officials stated that the LPMS will bring land ports on par with the digital systems already functioning at airports and seaports across the country, ensuring smoother cargo handling and passenger movement.
On the occasion, Amit Shah will also inaugurate newly developed stakeholder accommodation facilities at the Dawki Land Port in Meghalaya and the Srimantapur Land Port in Tripura. These facilities have been developed to support border security personnel, transport operators, traders, and other stakeholders involved in border management and trade activities.
The LPMS introduces end-to-end digital workflows covering cargo and passenger processing, slot booking, online payments, cargo tracking, and single-window clearance mechanisms. Authorities believe these features will significantly reduce delays, simplify administrative procedures, and improve overall operational efficiency at land ports.
Officials emphasized that the platform has been designed as a neutral and open system capable of facilitating seamless coordination among government agencies, customs authorities, logistics operators, transporters, and private stakeholders. Such integration is expected to enhance transparency and promote faster decision-making in border operations.
A key feature of the LPMS is its integration with major national digital platforms, including the Indian Customs Electronic Data Interchange Gateway (ICEGATE), the Unified Logistics Interface Platform (ULIP), and the motor vehicle ecosystem. This interoperability will enable efficient information sharing and support a more streamlined border management process.

The Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI), which functions under the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Department of Border Management, has been spearheading the development and management of land ports across India’s international borders. The authority currently operates 15 land ports located along the borders with Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar, and Pakistan.
Government officials noted that the LPMS initiative reflects the Narendra Modi-led government’s commitment to leveraging technology for national development and security. By improving trade facilitation, connectivity, and border governance, the system is expected to contribute significantly to the vision of a developed India, or “Viksit Bharat,” by 2047.

Experts believe the implementation of LPMS will not only strengthen national security but also improve the ease of doing business, encourage regional cooperation, and support economic growth in border states such as Tripura. With increasing trade volumes and passenger movement across international borders, the adoption of digital solutions is being viewed as a crucial step toward creating a modern, secure, and efficient border management network for the future.
