Union Home Minister Amit Shah affirmed that the NDA will contest Bihar elections under CM Nitish Kumar, dismissing dynastic politics and asserting, “No vacancy for sons of Sonia and Lalu.” He highlighted Bihar’s progress under the “double-engine government.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made it unequivocally clear that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will fight the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Dispelling all rumours about possible changes in leadership, Shah declared that the BJP and its allies stand firmly behind the Janata Dal (United) chief.
Speaking at a TV18 programme on Wednesday, Shah stated, “There is no vacancy for CM in Bihar; there is no confusion here. We are fighting the election under the leadership of Nitish Kumar.” His comments come at a crucial political juncture, just weeks ahead of the two-phase Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for November 6 and 11, with results to be announced on November 14.
A Firm Message Against Dynastic Politics
Amit Shah’s remarks carried a sharp message for opposition parties, particularly the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, which he accused of promoting dynastic politics. Referring to the families of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Sonia Gandhi, Shah said,
“Lalu ji wants his son to become CM, and Sonia ji wants her son to become PM. I want to tell them both that there is no space available for either of the sons in Bihar or in Delhi. There’s Modi ji, and in Bihar there is Nitish Kumar ji.”
This statement was not only a direct rebuttal to Tejashwi Yadav’s recent claim that Nitish Kumar is a “puppet” of the BJP but also an attempt to draw a clear ideological line between the NDA and the opposition’s Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance).
Shah’s assertion that “there is no vacancy for CM in Bihar” effectively ends speculation about the BJP seeking to replace Nitish Kumar post-elections. It also signals the NDA’s commitment to presenting a united front amid opposition efforts to portray internal discord.
Highlighting Bihar’s Transformation Under the ‘Double-Engine Government’
The Home Minister lauded the achievements of the “double-engine government” — a term often used by the BJP to describe states where the same party or coalition rules both the state and the Centre. He highlighted key welfare and developmental initiatives implemented under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
Shah cited the distribution of free food grains to over 85 million people, the opening of 6.6 crore bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, and improvements in infrastructure and law and order as evidence of Bihar’s transformation.
“Bihar has witnessed tremendous progress over the past 11 years. Nitish Kumar has freed the state from jungle raj and ushered in a new era of development,” Shah said, underscoring that the NDA’s governance model has delivered tangible results for the poor and marginalized sections.
Election Context: Unity vs. Uncertainty
Shah’s public endorsement of Nitish Kumar comes at a time when political temperatures are rising in Bihar. The Mahagathbandhan, led by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav and supported by the Congress, has been attacking the NDA government on unemployment, corruption, and governance issues.
However, Shah’s remarks seek to recast the election narrative as a contest between stability and dynastic politics, with the NDA emphasizing continuity and effective governance under Nitish Kumar.
Observers note that the BJP’s clear backing of Kumar is a strategic move aimed at consolidating the NDA’s vote base and avoiding confusion among allies and voters. The message is clear: Nitish Kumar remains the face of NDA in Bihar.
Conclusion: A Call for Political Clarity
As the campaign intensifies, Amit Shah’s statement could set the tone for the NDA’s election messaging in Bihar. By declaring “no vacancy” for sons of Sonia Gandhi and Lalu Prasad Yadav, Shah has drawn a sharp distinction between the NDA’s leadership model and the dynastic aspirations of its rivals.
