The Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) and GBP Hospital is currently grappling with a shortage of nursing staff, as revealed by Dr. Shankar Chakraborty, the Medical Superintendent of the institution. Dr. Chakraborty voiced his concerns during a weekly press conference held in Agartala, where he underscored the urgent need for additional nurses to enhance the quality and speed of medical services provided to patients.
Dr. Chakraborty pointed out that the current nurse shortage is affecting the hospital’s ability to meet the standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Indian Public Health Service (IPHS). Consequently, patient care is experiencing delays and a decrease in efficiency. To address this issue, Dr. Chakraborty has called upon the government to intervene and allocate resources for the recruitment of approximately 100 more nurses. He also noted that the recruitment process is already underway.
In an effort to accommodate the growing influx of patients, Dr. Prithwijit of the hospital’s medicine department announced plans to open a new female ward in the near future. This additional ward is expected to alleviate the patient rush and prevent the need for patients to be placed on the hospital floor.
Dr. Prithwijit reassured the public that the hospital’s existing staff is well-equipped and experienced to provide the necessary medical care. However, the hospital administration acknowledges the pressing need for an increased nursing workforce to ensure the delivery of prompt and effective healthcare services.
The hospital administration remains committed to enhancing its medical facilities and services, with the goal of providing the best possible care to the community. The recruitment of additional nurses is a crucial step toward achieving this objective, and efforts are underway to expedite the process.
