Access to legal services is a fundamental right to all the citizens of the country. However the underprivileged citizens could not get the benefit of justice owing costs involved – to this end, the Government of India introduced Legal Service Rules in 1987 to provide free of cost legal services to such citizens, Justice Arindam Lodh of High Court of Tripura said at Twichindrai Bari School ground under Teliamura on Sunday after inaugurating a Mega Legal Services Camp there. Besides, Justice Lodh also released a short film titled ‘Boomerang’ – the film highlighted information on various administrative services rendered by the Government.
Justice Lodh was accompanied by District Session Judge Sankari Das, District Chief Judicial Majistrate Dharmendu Das, Judge of the Family Court Hrishikesh Chakraborty, Secretary of district Legal service Nandita Bhattacharjee, Additional SP of Khowai District Amitabha Pal and other dignitaries.
In today’s camp, 18 stalls were opened by different line departments of the Government.
“Introduction of Legal service rules benefitted the underprivileged persons of all sections of society in accessing Legal services free of cost”, Justice Lodh said and urged people to utilize the constitutional right.
In the meantimem, a special camp was held to mark the 25th anniversary of legal services, at Chinta Lohar Bhavan in Haflong on Sunday.
Sessions Judge, North Tripura Judicial District Subhashish Sharma Roy, Swapna Chakraborty of Lrgal Services and others present in the programme. Wheelchairs were distributed among 26 divyangan people during the camp. More than 2,000 people went to the camp to get legal assistance.
