Ranjan Debnath, headmaster of PM SHRI Class XII Girls’ School in Sabroom, South Tripura, received the National Teachers’ Award from President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi, recognising his outstanding contribution to education, innovation, student development and public schooling.

Ranjan Debnath, Headmaster of PM SHRI Class XII Girls’ School in Sabroom, South Tripura, has been honoured with the prestigious National Teachers’ Award for his outstanding contribution to education and the overall development of students.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the national award to Debnath at a special ceremony held in New Delhi on Teachers’ Day, bringing significant recognition to Tripura’s education sector. The honour has also generated pride among residents of Sabroom, who welcomed the achievement as a recognition of the dedication and commitment of teachers working in the state’s public education system.

Established in 1960, PM SHRI Class XII Girls’ School, Sabroom, has witnessed considerable development in recent years under Debnath’s leadership and through the collective efforts of its teaching staff. The institution has expanded its focus beyond conventional classroom education by introducing modern facilities and encouraging students to participate in academic, technological, sporting, cultural and social activities.

The school now has smart classrooms, science laboratories, an Atal Tinkering Lab, skill and robotics laboratories and a virtual reality laboratory. It has also introduced vocational education, self-defence training, a library and sports coaching to provide students with opportunities for comprehensive development.

The institution’s academic performance has remained strong. The school recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in both secondary and higher secondary examinations during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic sessions. In the 2024-25 academic session, it again achieved a 100 per cent pass rate at the secondary level, while its higher secondary pass percentage stood at 92 per cent.

Debnath has been recognised for his dedication to students and his efforts to ensure that girls receive opportunities for both academic and extracurricular growth. Despite a limited teaching workforce, he has been guiding nearly 700 students at the institution.

Alongside academic education, Debnath has encouraged students to participate in sports, cultural programmes and various co-curricular activities. The school’s emphasis on technology-based learning, vocational skills, self-defence and innovation has further strengthened its educational environment.
