Tripura Minister for Transport and Tourism, Sushanta Choudhury, officially inaugurated a cashless transaction system in all eight district transport offices throughout the state. The announcement was made during a virtual ceremony held at the Civil Secretariat’s conference hall.
The digital transaction system was initially piloted in August 2023, following the successful implementation of a similar project by the West Tripura District Transport Office in collaboration with the State Bank of India.
After witnessing an enthusiastic response during the trial period, the cashless transaction system has been officially extended to cover all districts in the state.
This cashless payment method is set to offer numerous advantages to the public, who can now benefit from the convenience of cashless transactions via UPI systems and point-of-sale (POS) machines available in each district transport office.
Choudhury highlighted that despite the absence of cashless transaction services in the 2022–23 fiscal year, the department collected over Rs 115 crore. With an increased focus on cashless transactions, the transport department has set an ambitious target of Rs 125 crore in revenue collection for the 2023–24 financial year. The department’s statistics indicate a positive trend, with Rs 73.77 crore in revenue collected up to October in the current financial year.
The minister expressed confidence that this transition to a more technologically advanced system would contribute to the state’s and the nation’s progress. He emphasised the growing trend of cashless transactions in India and the government’s commitment to promoting digital payment methods.
