In a scene reminiscent of a Hitchcockian horror film, an unsettling phenomenon has unfolded in Jaykatpur School and its surrounding areas in South Tripura district over the past few days.
Swarms of unidentified insects, resembling mosquitoes, have descended upon the region over the past few days. These insects have not only blanketed the school buildings but also persistently stung anyone in their path.
The alarming situation has prompted authorities to take the unusual step of temporarily closing the school for three days. The headmaster of the school sent letters to the District Education Officer and Inspector of Schools to report the incident.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Subrata Das and a team from Matai Hospital conducted an inspection of the affected school and its surroundings. They found these mosquito-like insects throughout the premises, from classrooms to verandahs.
While their bite has raised concerns, there has been no confirmation from the chief medical officer regarding the potential harm they may cause.
As a precautionary measure, the school authorities have been advised to keep the school closed until the infestation of these mysterious insects is addressed.
