Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma says a notification on indigenous land-related issues under the Tiprasa Accord may be issued soon. He expects fresh discussions with the Centre in New Delhi to accelerate implementation of the agreement.
Tipra Motha founder Pradyot Kishore Debbarma on Thursday indicated that the implementation process concerning indigenous land-related issues under the Tiprasa Accord could begin shortly, with a government notification potentially expected within the next one or two days. He also said the Centre might invite Tipra Motha representatives to New Delhi for further discussions on implementing the agreement.
Debbarma made these remarks while speaking to reporters after arriving at Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala. He said he had spoken with Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the implementation of the accord and expected the central government to initiate the next round of discussions.
“Regarding land issues, a notification may be issued today or tomorrow. We will proceed further based on its recommendations. I think they are calling us to Delhi,” Debbarma told reporters.
The Tipra Motha founder said the process, which was earlier expected to begin approximately one month after the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), could now move forward. He stressed that the implementation of the agreement should not face further delays, as resolving the outstanding issues would benefit Tripura and its indigenous population.
The Tiprasa Accord was signed in March 2024 between the central government, the Tripura government and representatives of Tipra Motha, with the objective of addressing various concerns and demands of the indigenous Tiprasa community. The agreement has remained an important issue for the party, which has consistently demanded the implementation of its provisions.
Debbarma reiterated that the protection of indigenous rights and the fulfilment of the community’s demands would remain central to Tipra Motha’s position. He assured the people that the party would continue its efforts to secure the implementation of the agreement.
“People do not need to worry. As long as I am alive, I am not merely Tipra Motha’s Tiprasa; I am a Tiprasa,” he said, emphasising his continued commitment to the future and interests of Tripura’s indigenous population.
He also cautioned against attempts to create divisions within the Tiprasa community, stating that unity was essential to protect the interests of future generations. According to him, political differences should not weaken the community’s collective position or affect the aspirations of young people.
The former active political leader stressed that Tipra Motha remained prepared to participate in negotiations and engage constructively with the central government while maintaining its position on the demands outlined in the agreement.
He further said the party wanted peace, stability and development in Tripura and would continue to pursue the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord through discussions and democratic engagement.

The expected notification and proposed Delhi discussions could mark an important development in the ongoing process of implementing the agreement, particularly concerning indigenous land-related issues. However, the actual progress will depend on the recommendations of the notification and the outcome of the proposed discussions between Tipra Motha representatives and the Centre.
Debbarma’s statement has renewed attention on the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, with the indigenous community and political observers awaiting further developments regarding the government’s next steps.
